Venus Cycle Dates

This planner marks the beginning of the Venus cycle from Venus’ inferior conjunction with the Sun rather than from Venus’ heliacal rise, as do some astrologers. I see this as the starting or “seed” point, much like the Moon’s conjunction with the Sun, the New Moon, marks the beginning of the moon cycle. So, the start and end dates of the Venus cycles will vary by a week, and sometimes the overtone sign will differ from astrologers who follow the work of Daniel Giamario and Cayelin Castell (Shamanic Astrology, Turning of the Ages Mystery School, Venus Alchemy). Read more about why.

Though I have diverged from Daniel and Cayelin in a few ways, I want to acknowledge their pioneering work with the Venus cycle. The reintroduction of the synodic cycles into modern astrology, and much of the mythic framework outlined below, must be attributed to them. Likewise, their emphasis on an Earth-based observer, direct and ceremonial relationship with the night sky has proven personally valuable and a radical contribution to modern astrology.
